Fix Formatting Issues When Adding Content to Educa

Learn how copied text can cause unexpected formatting or editing issues in Educa, and how pasting as plain text can help prevent them.

Written by Educa

If text in Educa isn't formatting or behaving as expected, formatting copied from another source may be the cause. This can happen when you copy content from websites, documents, emails, or even another area of Educa.

Common issues with copied content

Copied content can contain hidden formatting or other elements that aren't visible in Educa. This can sometimes cause issues such as:

  • Fonts, sizes or colours that you can't change as expected

  • Formatting that looks different after content is saved or published

  • Unexpected spacing, backgrounds or layouts

  • Parts of the editor not behaving as expected

  • Problems saving or editing content

Tip: If you're copying text into Educa, we recommend pasting it as plain text. This removes formatting from the original source and lets you format the content directly in Educa.

Paste text as plain text

Pasting as plain text removes formatting and other hidden elements carried across with copied content. This gives you a clean starting point and reduces the chance of formatting interfering with your content.

You'll then need to apply any headings, fonts, colours, lists or other formatting using Educa's text editor.

Windows

Option 1: Context menu

  1. Copy your text (Ctrl+C).

  2. In Educa’s editor, right-click and choose Paste as plain text (or Paste and match style).

Option 2: Keyboard shortcut

  1. Copy your text (Ctrl+C).

  2. Place your cursor in the editor and press Ctrl+Shift+V.

Mac

  2. Right‑click (or two‑finger tap) in the editor and select Paste and Match Style.

Option 2: Keyboard shortcut

  1. Copy text (⌘+C).

  2. In the editor, press ⌘+Option+Shift+V.

Note: If your browser lacks that shortcut, use the right‑click menu or the intermediary method below.

iOS (iPad & iPhone)

  1. Select the text you wish to copy.

  2. Tap the > icon.

  3. Tap the Share... option.

  4. Tap Copy.

  5. Tap the Educa editor to set the cursor.

  6. Long‑press and select Paste.

Tip: iPad & iPhone don't have the option to paste as plain text, however the above steps will copy the text as plain so when it it pasted, no formatting will be carried over.

Android

  1. Copy text.

  2. Tap the editor and long‑press until the paste menu appears.

  3. Select Paste as plain text (or tap the clipboard icon and choose the plain-text entry).

Tip: If that option is unavailable, use the intermediary method below.

If your browser or device doesn’t support the above, strip formatting anywhere by:

  1. Pasting into a basic text app (Notepad on Windows, TextEdit in Plain Text on Mac, or any simple notes app on mobile).

  2. Selecting all (Ctrl+A / ⌘+A or tap + Select All) and copying again.

  3. Pasting into Educa (Ctrl+V / ⌘+V or tap + Paste).

This two-step process strips out all formatting.

Fix formatting in existing content

If you've already pasted content into Educa and are experiencing formatting issues, try the Clear formatting tool first:

  1. Select the affected text.

  2. Select the Clear formatting (eraser) icon in the toolbar.

  3. Reapply the formatting you want using Educa's text editor.

Note: Clear formatting can resolve many text-formatting issues, but it may not remove every hidden element introduced when content was copied. If you're still having problems, remove the affected content and paste it again as plain text.
