This article shows you how to print or download your learning stories from Educa. You’ll learn how to customise the print layout, adjust page settings, and troubleshoot formatting issues — so your stories look great on paper or as a PDF.

📌 This guide is written for desktop browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge). If you're printing from a mobile or tablet device, results may vary — we recommend printing from a computer for best results.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to print or download a story as a PDF

  • How to customise the layout and formatting

  • How to preview your print before printing

  • How to troubleshoot common print issues

Accessing Print and Download Options

☝️ You can only print a story after it has been published.

To print or download a story as a PDF:

  1. Open the published story.

  2. Click the three dots (⋮) on the story card or the More dropdown in the story view.

  3. Select Print/Save PDF.

To download as a PDF instead of printing:

  1. In the print dialog, choose Save as PDF as the destination.

  2. Click Save.

Customising Your Print Layout

When the print preview window opens, you’ll see a set of options on the left and a live preview on the right.

Options include:

  • Header options: Turn off the default header if you’ve already written a custom title inside the story. This stops the default title from printing.

  • Borders: Choose whether to show or hide borders around content.

  • Backgrounds: Enable or disable background colours and patterns.

  • Sections to include: Select if you want to include elements like comments or links to frameworks.

  • Page Size: Choose standard sizes like A4, US Letter etc.

Changes on the left will immediately update the print preview on the right, so you can see what your story will look like before printing.

Browser Print Settings

For extra control over layout, open your browser's print settings:

  • Windows/Linux: Ctrl + P

  • Mac: Command + P

Browser settings let you adjust:

  • Scale – Shrink or expand content to fit the page

  • Margins – Add or reduce white space

  • Orientation – Switch between portrait and landscape

If your story does not fit the page perfectly, you could try different page sizes in Educa - in the left-hand menu.

Troubleshooting Print Issues

Story cuts off mid-page?
Try adjusting the scale setting or editing the story to reduce image/text size.

Too much white space or blank pages?
Look for extra paragraph breaks or empty lines in your story. Delete any large empty gaps.

Images too large on the page?
Resize them in the story editor using the 33% / 50% / 100% image toolbar options before printing.

Header showing twice?
Use the Hide Default Header setting to remove the extra title.

✏️ Editing Your Story to Fix Print Layout

If something doesn’t look right:

  1. Click Edit on the story.

  2. Make your formatting changes (e.g. image size, spacing).

  3. Click Publish.

  4. Return to the print preview to confirm everything looks good.

📣 You can choose whether or not to notify families when you publish changes. Just tick or untick the notification option before saving.
